Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share this incredibly detailed and honest feedback. I'm a maintainer on the development team, and I want to validate right away that your concerns about our online presence are completely spot on.
Frank and the rest of the team have been heavily focused on upgrading the core simulation engines and adding complex features under the hood, but our external ecosystem (this pending forum, the outdated videos, and the lack of modern tutorials) has definitely lagged behind. Cleaning up this legacy feedback, updating our outward-facing marketing, and rethinking our pricing/trial models are top priorities for us right now, and your suggestions on educational discounts are highly noted.
More importantly, your comment highlighted a massive blind spot for us regarding your Custom IC suggestion. We actually did implement Custom ICs! However, we took a slightly different approach: they are designed to be written directly in C to give users maximum flexibility and control over the logic.
But here is the glaring issue you helped us realize today: we haven't documented this feature anywhere on the current site.
It is completely understandable why you (and others) assumed it didn't exist. We are currently working on a fully updated version of our website, and thanks to your post, we are ensuring that comprehensive documentation and tutorials for the C-based Custom ICs will be front and center when it launches. We will also look into your suggestion about a generic, user-configurable component library.
iCircuit is very much under active development, and users like you are exactly what we need to help point out these oversights. Please feel free to share the rest of your suggestions whenever you're ready—we are actively reading and listening.
